KIGALI, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- The Rwandan President-elect Paul Kagame will this Friday be sworn in as president for the seven-year term in office after winning the latest presidential elections, said a senior official on Thursday.

Kagame was handed a third term in office after defeating two other contestants with a landslide victory of winning 98.79 percent of the total vote.

"The swearing in ceremony is in line with the Rwandan constitution article 102 that stipulates that the president-elect takes oath of office within thirty days following his or her election. His or her oath of office is administered by the President of the Supreme Court," Rwandan State Minister in charge constitutional and legal affairs Evode Uwizeyimana told Xinhua in a phone interview.

Uwizeyimana explained that the Prime Minister is appointed within fifteen days after the swearing in of the president, other Cabinet members are appointed within 15 days following the appointment of Prime Minister.

The ceremony will take place at Amahoro National Stadium in the capital city Kigali and will be aired live by Rwanda Broadcasting Agency to enable the general public who will not manage to go to the stadium to follow the proceedings.

About 20 Heads of State and Government from across Africa and beyond, as well as several dignitaries and thousands of Rwandans are expected to attend the inauguration event, Rwandan media The New Times reported.
