BRUSSELS, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- Belgium has decided to file a complaint to court against the people responsible for the Fipronil contamination of eggs, local media reported on Wednesday.

According to local newspaper La Libre, the federal government wants to be compensated for the damages caused by the egg contamination that now affects 17 European countries as well as China's Hong Kong. In the meantime, Belgium's Food Agency has decided to close 21 poultry farms as precaution.

Two leaders of the company Chickfriend have been arrested in the Netherlands in link with this case, but according to the local media in Belgium, the name of Chickfriend has not been cited in the complaint brought by the Belgian federal government.

In another communique published on Wednesday, the federal government claims a financial compensation to support the farms impacted by the fraud and considers installing, among other measures, a temporary unemployment regime for workers while the case is still under judiciary procedure.
