RIYADH, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- Saudi Arabia denied on Wednesday seeking any sort of mediation with Iran, describing such news reports as baseless, Saudi News Agency reported.

Different news outlets published this week reports quoting Iraqi Interior Minister, Qasim al-Arraji that Saudi Arabia asked Iraq to mediate with its rival Iran.

Saudi Arabia severed all ties with Iran in 2016 over allegations that the country interferes in its internal affairs.

A source from Saudi Arabia asserted in a statement on Wednesday the firm stand of his country that rejects any form of relation with Iran, accusing the country of spreading terrorism and sectarianism in the region and the world.

The source said that Saudi Arabia sees the current Iranian government is non-negotiable for its disrespect of diplomatic rules and norms and international ties principles.

The statement called upon the world to deter the Iranian government from its hostile acts by forcing it to stick to international law and United Nations resolutions.
