NANNING, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- Six people have died and one remains missing following days of torrential rain in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, civil affairs authorities said Tuesday.

The casualties were reported in Rongshui and Rongan counties where continued rain since Saturday has triggered landslides and house collapses, the region's civil affairs department said in a statement.

As of 4 p.m. Tuesday, over 4,000 residents had been evacuated due to flooding in 15 counties and districts, the statement said.

More than 3,000 hectares of crops were damaged or destroyed and 58 houses had collapsed, it said.

Direct economic losses have reached 291 million yuan (43 million U.S. dollars).
