LOS ANGELES, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- Governor of Guam confirmed Tuesday that there is no change to the threat level facing Guam.

"Good morning everyone, as of 7 a.m. this morning CHsT (2100 GMT, Monday), Guam's threat level remains the same and has not been raised. Have a beautiful Tuesday!" wrote Governor Eddie Calvo on Twitter, trying to relieve local residents.

The tweet came hours after he announced "there has been no change to any threat level to Guam" in a press conference Monday afternoon.

During the press conference, Calvo told media that there was no heightened security because of the threats from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

According to a report of Pacific Daily News, a local newspaper, Guam Homeland Security Adviser George Charfauros Jr. also reiterated that even if the DPRK attempted to fire missiles, there was a remote possibility for them to get through U.S. missile defense system and reach the island.

Guam is covered by a missile defense system deployed permanently by the Defense Department at Andersen Air Force Base, which includes the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system and the AN/TPY-2 radar system.

Another report of the newspaper Tuesday said those who live and work near Guam's two main military bases, Andersen Air Force Base and Naval Base Guam, "aren't seeing any extra activity, despite the threat."

Kim Jong Un, the top leader of the DPRK, Monday praised the country's strategic force for making a detailed plan for launching missile strikes against the U.S. territory of Guam in the Pacific, the Korean Central News Agency reported Tuesday.

Guam became a focus amid recent increasingly heated rhetoric between Washington and Pyongyang.

The DPRK military said in a statement Thursday that it would accomplish a strike program against Guam in mid-August, as a response to U.S. President Donald Trump's stern warning to the DPRK two days earlier.

"North Korea (DPRK) best not make any more threats to the United States ... They will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen," Trump told journalists last Tuesday.
