ANKARA, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- The Turkish police detained 11 people over suspicion of having links to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) early Monday in the captial Ankara.

Counterterrorism forces conducted an operation at dawn to apprehend 15 suspects allegedly linked to PKK, state-run Anadolu Agency reported, citing security source.

Two heads of the opposition Peoples' Democratic Party's (HDP) district branches of Etimesgut and Mamak were among the detained, the report said.

The PKK, listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and the EU, resumed its armed campaign against the Turkish government in July 2015.

Since then, some 1,200 Turkish security personnel and civilians were killed in PKK attacks, while more than 7,000 PKK members were killed during government operations across Turkey and northern Iraq.
