SINGAPORE, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- Two new cases of locally transmitted Zika virus infection in Singapore have been confirmed at Serangoon North Avenue 1, said the National Environment Agency (NEA) on Monday.
The location is the same with previous three Zika cases confirmed by NEA on July 26 and another four confirmed on Aug. 4.
The NEA has been conducting inspections before the notification of these two new cases. It is also continuing with vector control operations in the vicinity to this cluster area.
Residents and stakeholders are urged to maintain vigilance and continue to eliminate mosquito breeding habitats, as there could be symptomatic or mild, undiagnosed cases which might result in further transmission of the virus if there are mosquitoes in the vicinity.
Zika is a virus transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which could cause birth defects for pregnant women. By now, Singapore has recorded 61 reported Zika cases in 2017, according to the Ministry of Health.
