Indonesia's motorbike sales post record high in July

JAKARTA, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's motorcycle sales, one of the indicators for measuring the strength of purchasing power of middle class, grew to the highest level in July.

Data from Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association revealed on Monday that the motorbike sales increased 76.4 percent to 538,176 units in July from a year earlier, the highest growth in recent years.

The figure was rebounded from a fall in June, which contracted 27 percent to 379,467 units from a year ago. During the month Muslims in the country witnessed a long holiday of Eid al-Fitr, an important religious holiday for Muslims worldwide that marks the end of Ramadan.

The motorbike sales in May, April and March were respectively 531,496 units, 388,045 units and 473,896 units, according to the association.
