PUL-E-KHUMRI, Afghanistan, Aug. 12 (Xinhua)-- Deputy chief of the Taliban military commission has surrendered to the government forces in Afghanistan's northern province of Baghlan, an official said Saturday.

"Taliban deputy military commission chief, Qari Mahfozullah, surrendered to the security forces in the restive Burka district this morning," said Ghulam Hazrat Karimi, press officer of 20-Pamir military division in the northern region.

Three more Taliban fighters have been killed during operations in Dara-e-Gulak, an area located on the way between Dushi and Talabarfak districts, said the official.

Baghlan province, with Pul-e-Khumri as its capital located 160 km north of Kabul, has been regarded as troubled area as anti-government militants often attack security checkpoints along the way to Kunduz and sometimes to Kabul.
