BISHKEK, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- An internationally wanted man was detained in Kyrgyzstan over trying to smuggle nationals of Kyrgyzstan and other Central Asian countries to conflict areas in the Middle East, the State Committee for National Security reported Friday.

The national of a Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) country, who is on an internationally wanted list for crimes committed in his native land, was arrested during counter-terrorist operations, said the committee.

The man was found to be planning on staying in Kyrgyzstan to continue to smuggle nationals of Central Asian countries to areas of armed conflict in the Middle East.

Latest official data showed some 500 Kyrgyz nationals fought in Syria, four of whom were killed in the conflict.
