MADRID, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- Inflation in Spain remained steady in July, with consumer prices increasing 1.5 percent year-on-year, the same as posted in June, according to data published on Friday by the Spanish National Institute of Statistics (INE).

The INE said prices of food, especially fresh fruit and vegetables, and non-alcoholic drinks dropped in July, and so did electricity prices.

Housing rental prices rose sharply by an average of 9.6 percent in the past 12 months, it added.

The INE will publish more of its inflation statistics later in the month.
