MADRID, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- Security workers at Barcelona's El Prat airport on Thursday evening voted to reject the pay rise they had been offered and to continue with the strike which has caused delays to passengers using the airport over the past week, Spanish media inform.

The security staff contracted by the private company Eulen, which runs the contract to carry out security checks at the airport, rejected the company's offer of a pay rise of 12 payments of 200 euros a month, voting instead to continue negotiating for 15 separate payments of 250 euros over the year.

The decision means that Friday will see a return to the one-hour stoppages throughout the day, similar to those which caused queues of over an hour for passengers waiting to board flights last Friday, Sunday and Monday.

Similar action is called for this coming Sunday with an indefinite strike programmed to begin on Aug. 14.

The pay rise is the only impediment to a deal being reached as the workers' strike committee accepted proposals to improve working conditions, such as incorporating a fifth worker on each security line during the periods of most activity at what is Spain's busiest airport. Enditem
