KIEV, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- Civilians living in a conflict-stricken area in eastern Ukraine received relief supplies from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), authorities said on Thursday.

The ICRC convoy of seven trucks has delivered 121 tons of humanitarian aid to people living in the territories in Donetsk region controlled by pro-independence insurgents, Ukraine's State Border Service said in a statement.

The assistance includes much-needed medical supplies, as well as construction materials to help people whose houses were damaged by the hostilities to prepare for winter.

Since the conflict between government troops and insurgents started in April 2014, it has left more than 3.8 million residents of eastern Ukraine in need of humanitarian assistance.
