TUNIS, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- Tunisia's trade deficit worsened during the first seven months this year, despite a 15.9% improvement in exports, the National Institute of Statistics (INS) reported on Thursday.

According to INS, the trade deficit reaches about 8.63 million dinars(3.54 million USD), compared with around 6.86 million dinars(2.8 USD) in the same period a year earlier.

The country's imports increased markedly by 18.8% to 27.8 million dinars(11.4 USD) during the first seven months of 2017, against 23.3 million dinars(9.6 million USD) during the same period from last year, said INS.

As a result, the coverage rate reached 68.9%, compared with 70.7% in the first seven months of 2016.

As the main public institution specializing in official statistics in Tunisia, the National Institute of Statistics pointed out the deficit is observed among certain partners, notably China, Italy and Turkey. Enditem
