LAGOS, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- The Nigerian Air Force on Tuesday unveiled five new Mushshak aircraft to combat the deadly activities of the Boko Haram sect, following the renewed offensives by the insurgents.
The acquisition of the trainer jets was timely to deal decisively with Boko Haram sect, the country's Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, said at a brief event in northern Kaduna.
"On corruption in the system and Boko Haram, we have re-strategized and all these attacks you see are just sign of weakness and we have been doing a lot to see that all these ambushes come to an end," he added.
Earlier, the Chief of Air Force, Air Marshal Sadique Baba Abubakar said the relocation of service Chiefs to northeast city of Maiduguri has improved the intelligence gathering and final clean up of insurgents in that part of the country.
He said NAF aircraft were roving the air for minimum of nine hours daily to ensure security of lives and property as well as protection of air asset at their Maiduguri base.
He added that the NAF has no fewer than 10 training aircraft now and were expecting additional five by December this year.
"The Super Mushshak is not only for the training. It can be used to fight crime because it has compartment where ammunition can be kept and applied. It can also be used for intelligence surveillance, ambulance among others," he told the gathering. Enditem
