Brunei's mobile phone, broadband penetration surge in 2016

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- Brunei has a mobile phone penetration of 125.5 percent last year, up by 14.1 percent from 2015, latest statistics from local telecom authority shows.

Prepaid users took a major share with 426,854 subscribers compared to 96,599 subscribers for postpaid users, Borneo Bulletin, a local news daily reported on Tuesday, quoting statistics from the Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI).

Meanwhile, for mobile broadband penetration (handset) per 100 inhabitants, it has also shown an increase - which was 115.7 percent mobile subscribers in 2016, compared to 93.1 percent mobile subscribers in 2015.

In the first quarter of 2017, the penetration has already reached 118.7 percent. As for the fixed broadband penetration (household and per 100 inhabitants), it has reached 51.1 percent in 2016 compared to 47.8 percent in 2015. And in the first quarter of this year, it has reached 52.7 percent.
