NEW DELHI, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- At least eight people were killed and 25 others injured Tuesday after a passenger bus they were travelling in fell into a canal in India's eastern state of West Bengal, police said.
The accident took place at Tehatta village in Nadia district, about 150 km north of Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal.
"Today a bus carrying passengers overturned and fell into a canal, killing eight people and injuring 25 others," a police official said.
Reports said the bus was speeding and its driver lost control resulting in the accident.
Soon after the accident, locals said they rushed to the spot to rescue the injured and informed police.
The injured, according to police, were rushed to Shaktinagar district hospital.
