JAKARTA, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- The Indonesian government mulled a proposal from a Hong Kong company to build a public low cost housing for local people, a minister said here on Tuesday.

Basuki Hadimuljono, public works and housing minister, said the Hong kong company offered a system to construct apartments with modular system technology.

"There is a suggestion to build a public low cost housing. They offered a technology by using a modular system which is faster and cheaper," he said.

Basuki said the government will consider and undertake a study over the suggestion by involving the research and development department at his ministry.

The minister said the offered technology may contribute to the government's move in projects of providing millions of houses for people in the country.

Indonesia with growing middle class has a population of over 250 million.
