KABUL, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- Afghan national army soldiers shot and killed two suicide bombers in the country's eastern province of Kapisa on Monday, foiling an attack on army personnel, said a military statement on Tuesday.

"On Monday, two terrorists riding a motorcycle were identified and killed by Afghan National Army (ANA) personnel in Tagab district. The attacker's explosive materials were exploded after shootings and their bodies could not be identified," the statement issued by Army Corps Selab 201 based in the region said.

The attackers tried to assault an army outpost before being killed. No member of army personnel or civilian was hurt following the explosion, the statement added.

The mountainous province with Mahmud-e-Raqi as its capital, 65 km north of Kabul, has been the scene of clashes between Taliban insurgents and security forces over the past years.

Taliban-led insurgency has been on the rampage since April when they launched their annual rebel offensive and intensified attacks across the country.
