WASHINGTON, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. authorities are searching for the gunman who shot rapper Yung Mazi dead Sunday night near a police station in Atlanta.
The family of the 31-year-old rapper asked on Monday for privacy, refusing local media's request for comments.
"Our privacy is at a premium." Yung Mazi's brother, Luqman Abdur-Rahman, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution in a brief phone call.
"We're praying for him and all involved," said Abdur-Rahman. Yung Mazi's real name was Jibril Abdur-Rahman.
The shooting happened just before 9 p.m. Sunday local time as Yung Mazi left a pizza restaurant which is just across from a police station in the DeKalb County portion of Atlanta. Local police said they responded to a report of 10 to 25 gunshots.
A suspect ran from the scene immediately after the shooting, according to local media reports. No arrests have been made.
Yung Mazi was known for collaborations with Atlanta rappers Rich Homie Quan and Yung Thug, and is said to have previously survived being shot 10 times.
"God made me bulletproof," Yung Mazi tweeted hours after he was shot in last December at a Buckhead Waffle House.
