ABUJA, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- The death toll of a massacre in a Nigerian church Sunday has risen to 11, local police said on Monday.

Earlier, at least eight worshipers were confirmed killed and 18 others injured in the early Sunday attack on St. Philip Catholic Church in Ozubulu area of the southeastern state of Anambra.

Citing casualty figures from a local hospital record, Anambra State police chief Garba Umar told reporters in Awka, the state capital, that more injured victims died while receiving treatment.

Some 18 injured victims are receiving treatment at the Nnamdi Azikwe University Teaching Hospital in the state capital, Umar said.

The motives behind the shooting remain unclear.

However, the police's preliminary investigation has revealed the mass killing was likely to be a result of a feud between two individuals who are from the community but who live outside Nigeria. One of the individuals, the police noted, built the church where the incident occurred.

"It is definitely not a terrorist attack in the mold of Boko Haram or herdsmen attack," the police said.

The police had since launched a manhunt for those behind the killing but no arrest has been made so far. Enditem
