MADRID, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- A third day of strike action by security staff at Barcelona's El Prat airport has caused considerable delays to travelers, Spanish media reported Monday.

The strikes are being carried out by employees of the company Eulen, which has the contract to run the security checks on travelers at the airport. Workers are protesting what they consider to be a lack of training, low wages and long shifts, which worker representatives claim can last up to 16 hours.

After the first days of the strike on Friday, passengers have arrived early at the airport expecting to be delayed.

Monday's strike went ahead after nine hours of talks on Sunday broke down after Eulen offered a pay rise of 150 euros (176 U.S. dollars) a month, while workers demanded a 350 euro monthly pay rise.

Spanish Secretary of State for Infrastructure Julio Gomez-Pomar has asked the security workers to "moderate their requests and to be reasonable when it comes to looking for an agreement," while workers' representatives comment that the participation of AENA, the company which runs Spain's airports, is vital in the negotiations.

If no agreement is reached the temporary stoppages will continue until Aug. 14 when an all-out strike has been called.
