KIEV, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- At least seven people, including two children, were killed in a head-on collision of two passenger cars on a highway outside the Ukrainian capital, the National Police of Ukraine said Monday.
The accident occurred at about 8:30 p.m. local time (GMT 1730) Sunday on the Boryspil ring road, 40 km southeast of the capital, when one car rammed into another on the opposite lane while overtaking a truck.
Five adults and one child were killed on the spot, while a six-year-old girl died later in the hospital. Another adult in hospital remained in severe condition, it said.
The preliminary data showed that dangerous overtaking manoeuvre and poor visibility could have been behind the accident. Further investigation into the cause of the crash is underway.
According to official statistics, 1,377 people lost their lives in over 76,000 traffic accidents on Ukraine's roads in the first half of 2017.
