CAPE TOWN, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- South Africa's ruling party African National Congress (ANC) on Monday lauded Rwanda's election as "another successful poll in Africa".

The election was a clear indication that democratic advances continue across the continent, which should be encouraged, the ANC said.

The ANC said the elections in Rwanda "were an expression of the will of the people and significant affirmation of their continued faith in the Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF) and President (Paul) Kagame to guide their country to prosperity and security".

The poll saw the re-election of Kagame by a landslide win of 98.63 percent of the vote.

According to the country's National Electoral Commission, voter turnout in Rwanda's election was 96 percent of a total of 6.9 million voters.

Under Kagame's leadershipm, Rwanda has made significant progress, becoming one of the strongest economies in East Africa, ANC Secretary General Gwede Mantashe said.

"The country is also regularly lauded for its political stability," said Mantashe.

The ANC congratulates Kagame on his re-election and reaffirms its fraternal support for the RPF, Mantashe said.
