MADRID, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- Four Spaniards and an Indian driver lost their lives on Saturday when their minibus was involved in a head-on collision with a lorry in the State of Andhar Pradesh in southern India, Spanish government confirmed.
Seven people, including further two Spaniards, were badly injured in the accident.
The four victims collaborated with the Vicente Ferrer Foundation, a charity which aims to provide education to children in India. They had spent the past days visiting projects run by the charity.
"They were friends of the Foundation and they had come for the past four years to visit the projects," confirmed a spokesperson for the Vicente Ferrer Foundation.
According to reports in the Spanish media, the accident happened after the group had visited a missionary hospital in the town of Madanapalle. The driver of the lorry involved in the accident has been arrested by police.
The Spanish Foreign Ministry has confirmed that the Spanish consul in Bombay has travelled to Bangalore to help deal with the accident.
