ACCRA, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- The Ghanaian government on Friday dispelled reports that the country is facing imminent terrorist attacks.

In a statement signed by the Minister of Information Mustapha Hamid in Accra, the ministry for national security said Ghana faces no known terrorist attack at the moment and remains safe.

Local media reports were awash with stories of security alerts released by the UK, Canada and other governments indicating terror on the West African country.

However, Ghana's national security said the alerts are only standard cautions and do not represent any specific known terrorism threats to the nation.

"Through collaborative and intelligence sharing with international allies, the nation's security agencies will be aware if there's a known threat in the offing," the statetment read, assuring the public that there is no cause for alarm.
