NAIROBI, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- An autopsy conducted on the body of the slain Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) ICT Manager Chris Msando revealed Wednesday that he was tortured and then strangled to death.
The exercise conducted on his body indicated his killers may have used bare hands in the strangulation and also hit him with a blunt object in the head inflicting a deep cut.
According to Government Chief Pathologist Dr Johansen Oduor and family one Dr Bessie Byakika, Msando's back had deep scratches, indicating the body was either dragged on a rough surface or scratched.
His right hand had deep cuts giving an indication of severe torture using a very sharp object. "He was strangled. Strangulation was the cause of the death," said Oduor, adding that Msando had a collapsed trachea, giving an indication the killers used bare hands, he added.
Msando was a key official at Kenya's electoral commission. He was one of a handful of officials who had the electoral commission's computer system passwords and knew the exact location of the servers to run the election.
Msando's death was confirmed less than an hour before he was scheduled to oversee the test run of the live results transmission system in Nairobi on Monday.
The autopsy report now forms the basis of the probe into the murder that happened hours after Msando was abducted.
His body alongside that of a 21-year-old nutrition student was found dumped in a forest in the outskirts of Nairobi on Saturday.
Investigators said they are talking to at least three suspects in connection with the murder. It is not clear what role the suspects played in the murder of the two.
They said they had covered much of the ground and now with the results of the postmortem out, they want to get the real killers and motive.
