ELDORET, Kenya, July 29 (Xinhua) -- Unknown gunmen on Saturday raided Kenyan Deputy President William Ruto's rural home in Eldoret in northwest Kenya after overpowering the paramilitary police officers guarding the home.
A senior area police chief said the armed assailants stormed the home and shot a police officer, with gunmen still held up in the premises.
The incident happened a few minutes after Ruto who was on a political campaign in the area left for another political rally in neighboring town.
"Fighting is still going on but reinforcements have been sent to the home," the police officers said.
