WASHINGTON, July 28 (Xinhua) -- The United States on Friday strongly condemned the latest launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

The United States will "never accept a nuclear-armed" DPRK nor abandon its commitment to "the allies and partners in the region," said State Secretary Rex Tillerson in a statement.

Tillerson's remarks came after the Pentagon confirmed that an initial assessment showed the DPRK launched an ICBM at 10:41 a.m. EDT Friday (1441 GMT).

The United States and South Korea conducted a live-fire exercise early Saturday morning local time along the east coast of South Korea in response to the DPRK's launch.

It's the second time this month that the DPRK tested an ICBM.
