Chinese Embassy in Myanmar celebrates PLA's 90th anniversary

YANGON, July 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Embassy in Myanmar held a reception in Yangon Friday to mark the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA).

Speaking at the event, the embassy's Military Attache Senior Colonel Xiong Shaowei said for the past 90 years, the PLA, under the strong leadership of the Communist Party of China, has made indelible contribution to the Chinese people's liberation, socialist construction and reform, safeguarding national sovereignty, security and development interest, maintaining world peace and promoting human progress.

In the past five years, the PLA has made remarkable progress in its construction of a strong army, he said.

He pointed out that with the joint efforts of the two sides, Myanmar and Chinese militaries have been strengthening cooperation in various fields including joint exercises, emergency rescue, disaster relief and border area management.

He pledged the Chinese military's willingness to work together with the Myanmar side to safeguard peace and stability in the border region, as well as to push forward pragmatic cooperation so as to constantly enrich the connotation of the China-Myanmar comprehensive strategic partnership.

Present at the event were Deputy Commander-in Chief of the Myanmar Defense Services and Commander-in-Chief of the Army Vice Senior General Soe Win, Minister of Defense Lieutenant General Sein Win and Chinese Ambassador Hong Liang, among others.
