SHIJIAZHUANG, July 28 (Xinhua) -- A road accident that left 11 dead and nine others injured was caused by the bus driver, traffic police in north China's Hebei Province said Friday.

The accident occurred at around 8:33 a.m. on July 21, when a 19-seater light bus collided with a semi-trailer on a national highway in Huangmei Township in the city of Zhangjiakou.

Investigations found the bus driver turned the steering wheel suddenly to avoid a vehicle in front, hitting an oncoming semi-trailer on the other side of the road, police said.

Eight people died at the scene and three others died later in hospital.

The traffic police also announced that overloading was identified as the cause of a separate accident that killed nine people and injured 28 others in Weichang County in the city of Chengde.

The crash happened at around 4 p.m. on July 6, when a truck and a car collided with a tour bus.

The truck was found to be carrying nearly 5 times the legal load, police said, adding that the heavy casualties occurred because none of the passengers on the tour bus were wearing their seat belts at the time of the accident.
