KABUL, July 28 (Xinhua) -- About 51 armed militants were killed and 46 others wounded during a series of operations launched by Afghan forces over the past 24 hours, Afghan Defense Ministry said Friday.

"Some 26 planned clearance and military operations, including 10 special operations, were launched, pounding several enemy's hideouts during the past 24 hours," the ministry said in a statement.

A local Taliban leader named Dadullah known as Qari Assadullah was among the dead, according to the statement.

The raids were conducted in 16 of the country's 34 provinces.

"The Afghan air force had also taken part in the mop-up operations, launching 110 flights, including several supportive flights and airstrikes on two hideouts of the militants during the above raids," the statement added.

The statement did not give details about the casualties on the side of the security forces over the period.
