AMMAN, July 27 (Xinhua) -- Jordan and Egypt warned Thursday against any measures that seek to change the status quo at Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, state-run Petra news agency reported.

The warning came at a meeting in Amman, where Jordanian Prime Minister Hani Mulki and his Egyptian counterpart Sharif Ismail discussed the strategic ties between the two countries and the latest developments at Al-Aqsa Mosque.

They said the two countries were closely following the removal of metal detectors and surveillance cameras Israel installed at the mosque.

The two sides stressed the need for Israel to refrain from taking measures that seek to alter the status quo at the shrine.

The two leaders also urged intensified efforts to fight terrorism of all forms.

In order to help boost trade between the two countries, they decided to form a committee for investors from both countries to explore opportunities of cooperation.

According to official figures, trade between Jordan and Egypt reached 550 million U.S. dollars in 2016.

Discussions also covered the situation of Egyptian workers in Jordan and cooperation in areas of tourism, education and energy.
