BAGHDAD, July 26 (Xinhua) -- China will provide Iraq with humanitarian aids, according to a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed in Baghdad on Wednesday.
Chinese ambassador Chen Weiqing and Iraqi Interior Minister Qasim al-Araji attended the signing ceremony of the MoU on economic and technical cooperation between both countries.
The aids provided by China will be used on implementation of humanitarian projects in Iraq.
Chen Weiqing congratulated Iraqi government for the victory in the fight against terrorism and said that Chinese government will encourage Chinese companies to participate in Iraq's post-war reconstruction.
Qasim al-Araji praised the good bilateral relations and said that Iraq appreciated the support of Chinese government and Chinese people.
Large part of territories in northern and western Iraq came under the control of extremist Islamic State group in 2014, including the second largest city Mosul.
On Oct. 17, 2016, Iraqi forces launched a major offensive to retake Mosul. Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi formally announced the liberation of Mosul on July 10, 2017.
According to Iraqi government's statistics, nearly a million civilians were displaced during the battles for Mosul.
