SOFIA, July 26 (Xinhua) -- The Bulgarian government on Wednesday approved a draft agreement on friendship, good neighborhood and cooperation with Macedonia, the cabinet said in a statement.

The signing of this agreement was an expression of Bulgaria's desire to build good neighborly relations based on European values, the statement said.

As a result of the signing of the contract, tangible results would be achieved such as the expansion of transport links and communications, participation in regional infrastructure and cross-border projects, as well as facilitating contacts between citizens of both countries, the statement said.

The government also on Wednesday approved memoranda of understanding on the development of a new direct link between Bulgaria and Macedonia's gas systems, and the construction of a railway link between the capital cities of the two countries, Sofia and Skopje, the statement said.

It is expected that the agreement and memoranda will be signed next week when a Bulgarian government delegation will visit Macedonia, or officially called Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM).
