Second Military Sports Games of CIS kick off in Kyrgyzstan

BISHKEK, July 25 (Xinhua) -- The opening ceremony of the second military sports games of the friendly armies of the Commonwealth of Independent States took place in Balykchy town of Kyrgyzstan, the press service of the General Staff of Kyrgyz Armed Forces reported on Tuesday.

The games are conducted on the Edelweiss training center of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Kyrgyz Republic with the participation of more than 300 servicemen representing the Armed Forces of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan. Uzbekistan is participating in the games as an observer.

The program of the second military sports games includes competitions in army hand-to-hand fighting, kettlebell lifting, military all-around competition, shooting from regular and service weapons, officer triathlon, commander's starts.

Opening the games, First Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Kyrgyz Republic Colonel Kubanychbek Orozmatov warmly greeted the guests and participants, wished them luck and said that such events are a vivid example of friendship and mutual understanding, and contribute to the development and strengthening of military cooperation between the states.

In turn, representatives of the participating teams thanked the Kyrgyz side for the warm welcome and also stressed the high degree of readiness of the sports facilities, which demonstrates the great work done by the Kyrgyz Republic and Armed Forces in order to hold a successful games.

The Games will last until August 2. The first military sports games were held in Moscow, Russia in July 2015 and were devoted to the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
