Albania, Macedonia to hold first joint gov't meeting in fall of 2017: FMs

TIRANA, July 25 (Xinhua) -- Albania and Macedonia authorities have agreed to hold the first joint government meeting in the fall 2017, Albanian and Macedonian Foreign Affairs Ministers, Ditmir Bushati and Nikola Dimitrov, announced Tuesday here.

The government meeting is expected to be held in the Albanian southeastern city Pogradec, bordering with Macedonia, the two ministers informed.

According to them, such event would be important to implement strategic projects which are also supported by international partners.

During the reception held to welcome the Macedonian counterpart, Albanian foreign minister Ditmir Bushati praised the determination of the new authorities in Skopje to overcome the crisis.

On behalf of Albanian government, Bushati praised Macedonia's new government determination to guarantee stability, strengthen the rule of law, continue the reforms and continue the path of Macedonia's accession in the NATO and the European Union, according to a press statement from the foreign ministry.

Further on, Bushati said that Albania was willing to step up cooperation which focused on the way how commitments between the two countries were implemented in practice.

"Achieving equality between Albanians and Macedonians in line with the Ohrid Framework Agreement and the Declaration of the Albanian Parliamentary Parties, is a key factor for the development and strengthening of a democratic, multiethnic and integrated Macedonian in the NATO and EU," the Albanian foreign chief said.

On his part, Macedonian foreign minister praised the support given by Albania for cooperation and for the Euro-Atlantic cooperation of Macedonia.
