The Gambia reviews National Development Plan

BANJUL, July 25 (Xinhua) -- The Gambian government with the local and international stakeholders on Tuesday reviewed the proposed National Development Plan (NDP) that will serves as guidance to the country's operation from 2018 to 2021.

The Gambia's Finance Minister Amadou Sanneh said the NDP is the vehicle through which the government seeks to define the strategies and actions to pursue and address economic and social challenges that they inherited.

"The document will set the template to guide us as we seek to deliver on our promise of good governance, accountability and revitalized and transformed economy to citizen," he said, adding that they have taken a participatory and inclusive process with the involvement of the civil society groups, community based organizations, coalition manifesto and the development priorities agreed at the recent cabinet retreat.

According to him, the document has prioritized good governance, economic management, agriculture, human capital, education and health, infrastructure and energy, tourism and culture, youth and employment and private sector development.

Ade Mamonyane Lekoetje, UN Resident Coordinator said, the finalization of a National Development Plan will systematically address the numerous economic, social and environment challenges it faces.

"This National Development Plan gives the government of the Gambia the opportunity to articulate its key development priorities, effectively manage its resources and strengthen policy coherence amongst the various sector of the economy," she added. Enditem
