DUBAI, July 25 (Xinhua) -- The UAE's port operator said Tuesday that it handled 34 million TEUs across its global container terminals in the first half of 2017, up 8.2 percent year-on-year on a reported basis and 7.7 percent on a like-for-like basis.

Container turnover in the second quarter saw growth accelerating to 10.7 percent year-on-year on a reported basis and 10.4 percent on a like-for-like basis, DP World, the world's third biggest container port operator, said in an e-mailed statement.

DP World, headquartered in Dubai's free port Jebel Ali regions, also said its terminals in Europe and the Americas performed particularly well in the second quarter.

"Given the encouraging first half performance, we remain well placed to meet full year 2017 market expectations," said Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, chief executive officer of DP World.

DP World shares, which are traded on the Nasdaq Dubai, gained 0.48 percent on Tuesday, closing at 23.10 U.S. dollars. Since January 1, DP World shares gained 31.92 percent, outperforming most Gulf Arab stock indexes.
