ACCRA, July 24 (Xinhua) -- Residents of Petransa, a community in the Ashanti Region of Ghana, on Monday retrieved four bodies from a collapsed mining pit.
The mining pit collapsed Sunday night, local media reported.
According to some residents who spoke to local Classfm radio in Accra, they saw between 11 and 15 men entering the pit and they believed more people could have been trapped in the pit.
Personnel from the security agencies as well as the national disaster relief agency, NADMO, are at the site for rescue operations.
The accident comes barely two weeks after 22 illegal miners were declared dead after being trapped for several days in a mining pit in the Western Region of the country. Enditem
