STUTTGART, Germany, July 24 (Xinhua) -- Two German automotive components supplier Bosch and automobile manufacturer Daimler on Monday launched a pilot automated parking solution.

The solution, demonstrated at the Mercedes-Benz Museum parking garage, features intelligent parking garage infrastructure supplied by Bosch and Mercedes-Benz automotive technology.

With help of sensors installed to monitor the driving corridor and its surroundings, a driver can leave the car in the garage's drop-off area, before the vehicle is identified by the parking garage's intelligent system and guided to an assigned space autonomously.

The vehicle can autonomously also drive up to the pick-up area where a customer can use smartphones to ask for their car.

The firms hope to accommodate up to 20 percent more vehicles in the same space with their driverless parking technology.

"Autonomous driving will be with us faster than many realize," said Michael Hafner, the head of automated driving and active safety center at Mercedes-Benz Cars Development, Daimler AG.

The pilot automated valet parking project is expected to be available to the visitors of Mercedes-Benz Museum from early 2018, on the condition that regulatory authorities issue their final approval.
