Timor Leste beat Macao 7-1 at AFC U-23 Championship qualification

HO CHI MINH CITY, July 23 (Xinhua) -- Timor Leste on Friday steamrolled China's Macao 7-1 at a match of the 2018 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U-23 Championship qualification.

Just two minutes into the Group I match in Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City, Timor Leste scored the opening goal, and netted twice before the break. Five minutes later, a key striker of Timor Leste received a red card.

After the break, Timor Leste collected another four goals, and Macao scored the only consolation goal.

After three matches, Timor Leste has ranked the third, and Macao the fourth.

Also on Sunday in the city, Vietnam lost 2-1 to South Korea, ranking the second.

Vietnam sent its national U-22 team to the AFC U-23 Championship qualification, as a preparation for its competing at the 2018 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games slated for next month in Malaysia.

Forty teams are competing at the AFC U-23 Championship qualification. Sixteen squads will qualify to play in the final tournament, including China who have qualified automatically as hosts. Enditem
