KABUL, July 22 (Xinhua) -- Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has congratulated Ram Nath Kovind on being elected as the 14th president of India, the Afghan presidential palace said on Saturday.
"President Ghani wishes a fruitful tenure to president Kovind. He also wishes prosperity to the people of our friendly partner nation India. President Ghani looks forward to bolstering of Afghan-India relations under President Kovind," the palace said in a statement.
The Afghan leader also described ex-president of India Pranab Mukherjee as a good friend of Afghanistan, wishing him a successful life ahead, the statement added.
Kovind, a former governor of the eastern state of Bihar, was declared winner of the Indian presidential election on Thursday.
