RABAT, July 21 (Xinhua) -- The 70th session of the Executive Committee of the African Parliamentary Union (APU) closed on Friday in Rabat.

The two-day event discussed means to foster cooperation between African parliamentary institutions.

The meeting approved the draft agenda of the 40th Conference as well as the draft agenda of the 71st Session of the Executive Committee.

The executive committee decided to hold its 71st session in Burkina Faso on November 6 to 10, 2017.

The chairman of the committee Cipriano Cassama said that the meeting was an opportunity to discuss various challenges that face Africa, including terrorism, unemployment and poverty.

He stressed that countering these challenges requires stronger exchange between law makers in the continent.

APU is a continental inter-parliamentary organization set up in Ivory Coast city of Abidjan in February 1976. Its status has been modified in 2016 on the occasion of the 39th Conference held in Rabat.

It aims particularly to bring together the parliamentary institutions of all African states to encourage contacts among African Parliamentarians, contribute to the promotion of democracy and the realization of the objectives of the African Union for the establishment of a lasting peace in the continent.
