NEW DELHI, July 21 (Xinhua) -- Chief Minister of northeastern Indian state of Nagaland T.R. Zeliang on Friday proved his majority by winning the trust vote in the assembly.

Zeliang won the trust vote by 47 votes in the 60-member Assembly, two days after he was sworn in by state Governor P.B. Acharya at Raj Bhavan in Nagaland's capital Kohima. He can now induct his Cabinet of Ministers.

The Naga People's Front leader was administered the oath of office, hours after his predecessor Shurhozelie Liezietsu was dismissed for failing to turn up in a special session of the Assembly to prove his majority.

Shurhozelie had been facing rebellion from within his party and he recently sacked some lawmakers to quell the rebellion.

Zeliang has become the 19th chief minister of the northeastern state that will go to polls some nine months from now.

He had held the post of chief minister earlier too, but was forced to step down in February after large scale protests by tribal groups who were opposed to his move to hold civic polls with 33 percent reservation for women.
