JAKARTA, July 21 (Xinhua) -- Men's volleyball players from 14 Asian countries and regions will compete in a tournament in East Java province of Indonesia next week, association said here on Friday.
The 19th Asian men's volleyball championship will be held in the Tridharma Petrokimia sport stadium and the Wahana Ekpresi sport stadium from July 24 to August 1, chairman of Indonesian volleyball association Imam Sudjarwo was quoted by the provincial website as saying.
Athletes from China, Japan, Australia and Iran are expected to show their best performance during the bienial regional sport event, Suadjarwo said.
He was optimistic Indonesian players could compete with their opponents from abroad, he said.
"For Indonesia, we have measured our capacity and we target to be among the top eight at the tournament," Sudjarwo said.
Indonesia shares group along with Qatar, Kazakhstan and Saudi Arabia, according to him.
