Chinese synchronized swimmers win second team silver at worlds

BUDAPEST, July 21 (Xinhua) -- China claimed their second team event silver medal in synchronized swimming of the 17th FINA World Championships as they finished runners-up in Team Free here on Friday.

Synchronized by the Peking Opera as an art manifestation to show Chinese traditional culture, China snatched 95.2333 points to add another silver after the Team Technical.

"In terms of the power and quality, they performed better today than in the preliminary," said China coach Wang Jie.

After the National Games in May, the Chinese team took six-week training before appearing on the World Championships stage in Budapest.

"Time is a little short for us, but we can be among the top level in such a period. I think that the level of Chinese synchronized swimming still can be improved in the future," she added.

For Wang Fang, another coach of the Chinese team, combining elegance and power in the same program was designed to aim at the diversity.

"We want to show some Chinese elements that can be better understood by the world," she said.

Russia won their sixth gold medal in synchronized swimming at 97.3000. Ukraine ranked third with 93.9333 points.

The Chinese team will also compete in Free Combination on Saturday.
