WINDHOEK, July 20 (Xinhua) -- Namibia's poverty eradication blueprint will allow the government to implement the Basic Income Grant and other policies aimed at fostering equality.
Speaking to the media in Windhoek Thursday, information minister Tjekero Tweya said Cabinet approved the blueprint Tuesday.
The blueprint, Tweya said, was submitted by the poverty eradication ministry that sought approval on how to implement it.
The drafting of the blueprint, Tweya said, contains interventions to address poverty, following consultations held countrywide in 2015 by President Hage Geingob with several Cabinet ministers and presidential advisors.
"The blueprint will foster the implementation of a Basic Income Grant and various policies aimed at addressing poverty, and lay out wealth redistribution strategies through various taxation modalities," Tweya said.
He added that the blueprint will also foster prudent land distribution in both rural and urban areas; as well as skills development and employment creation policies.
"Cabinet took note of the detailed activities to be undertaken by the Offices, Ministries and Agencies and support the implementation of the blueprint," he said.
