RAMALLAH, July 20 (Xinhua) -- Israeli soldiers on Thursday shot dead a Palestinian after he allegedly tried to carry out a stabbing attack in the occupied West Bank.
The Palestinian died immediately after Israeli soldiers opened fire at him, medical Palestinian sources said.
The incident took place near the village of Taquwa in eastern Bethlehem city, according to the sources, adding that the Israeli army banned Palestinian ambulances from reaching the Palestinian man.
However, an Israeli army spokesman told Israel Radio that the Palestinian man tried to stab Israeli soldiers close to the Israeli settlement of Itzion in Bethlehem area, and so the soldiers shot him dead.
It is the sixth Palestinian that has been killed by Israeli forces since Friday, including three killed in a terror attack at Al-Aqsa Mosque in east Jerusalem. Two Israeli policemen were also killed in the attack.
Since October 2015, a wave of violent tension has been going on between Israel and the Palestinians, leaving 383 Palestinians, two Jordanians and 48 Israelis killed, according to official figures.
