6 killed, 11 injured as cloudburst strikes Indian-controlled Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, July 20 (Xinhua) -- At least six people were killed and 11 others injured Thursday after a cloudburst hit Indian-controlled Kashmir, officials said.

The cloudburst hit Thathri in Doda district, about 215 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

"Early today a cloudburst hit Thathri, killing six people and injuring 11 others," a police spokesman said. "The cloudburst also damaged six houses, two shops and a private school building."

The injured were immediately moved to the nearest medical facility.

"All the injured are undergoing treatment at primary health center in Thathri," the spokesman said.

Police officials said they have retrieved six bodies from the spot and rescue work was underway.

Locals said the area received a heavy rainfall on Wednesday night.
